Incubation: Week One

I met with my actors for the first time and they were both wearing the same Puma brand socks. I took this as a sign that felicity was on my side in this endeavor. We set about learning each-other's names (Jason, Brendon, Jimmy), and I gave them each a copy of the script. I had them read it through in it's entirety, just to get a feel for how I wanted these characters to interact. We played a few movement games to get Jason and Brendon used to interacting with each-other (because getting two highschool boys to drop their teenager facade for a little bit does wonders for the energy in rehearsal).

I gave them homework to go home and look up any words in the script they didn't know, including a few biblical names that I wanted Brendon look up (because if you're going to be God, you ought to know who Pilot and Barabbas are). We met a few days later and I told them to start thinking of a few ways we could dress the characters (Maybe the man in his Sunday finest, God in a suit? Could be they're both wearing jeans an a T-shirt, just a casual conversation).

We next meet on Tuesday, this time for almost twice as long, so we should be able to start making some serious headway in seeing this show start to form.
